Normally Cam would never be comfortable sitting this close to a man, but I had to fit her and all the dialogue into the panel. Cramming dialogue into panels was my biggest challenge when we first started this project.
Nowadays, I like to think I know how to compose each shot so there's room for the text.
I hadn't realised quite how close she was sitting until you mentioned it. They certainly look very cosy in the last panel. XD
Making comics certainly forces you to use words carefully and sparingly! I love that first panel with all the different creatures chained up in a line.
Thank you for all the encouraging comments!
That's an excellent way of putting it. We used to have marital spats about it. "Why did you put so much dialogue on this page?!" "Why couldn't you fit all the dialogue on this page?!"
Haha As artist and writer I only have to wrestle with myself and even though I consciously try to keep the text to a minimum I still end up axing it down to leave room for the art when it comes to making the page. But it does really make you focus on the wording as I'll look at a line and think 'that doesn't really need saying' or 'I can put that an easier way.' and it just filters down to the most important words or points to be made.
Worst thing I ever did was to offer to do the art for a short six page story as a competition prize. The winner bombarded me with six pages of solid text and I had to explain it left no space for any art at all! XD
I'm still mad about the movie. Obviously a lot had to be cut from the graphic novel or it would have been 14 hours long, but I don't think Zach Snyder really got the point of the story. It's supposed to leave you feeling ANGER-Y
But even just reading the graphic novel, you wind up going, "Dang, this is... a lot of dialogue" xD

we've all been there.
